March Update

 Marching On...

As the semester passes its halfway mark, I'm left with lots of thoughts on what the future holds, while also looking back and seeing how much God has been working these last few months. This month, we've had several more opportunities to interact and engage with students outside playing games which has been so much fun with the warmer weather. Here are some of the things we've been up to...

Outreach

We've been able to be at several of the different Collin College campuses this last month and have been able to meet several new students. Pictured are both the Wylie campus and the Plano campus. The Wylie campus is new this year and we've been able to begin having a presence on the campus as new students file in.

Core

Just like always, our small groups (core) are still in full swing. Our group is still meeting on Tuesdays and its been great to see new faces coming though and seeing the guys get to interact and know each other more. Here are some pictures of our guys from the last month.

Pictured are the guys practicing how to ask each other purposeful questions. Rather than just saying, "how are you?" They might ask instead, "what is something you're passionate about and why?"

Pictured is what a traditional core looks like sitting around in a circle having discussion. If you look closely, you can see my knee covered in mini band-aids that I get after acupuncture therapy :o

Friday Fellowship

Every other Friday, we've aimed to have our students get together and spend time outside at a park, but weather has been pretty crazy lately, and so we finally had our first in-person hangout! Students played volleyball, corn hole, and other outdoor games for the afternoon.

The Staff

I liked this photo that one of our staff guys took during one of our meetings. Apparently, some wasps were causing some trouble for the team and thus everyone took to taking different measure, I'll let you guess what everyone is trying to do.

What I've been learning

God has really pointed out my flaws and shortcomings in ways that it can be easy for me to either feel discouraged or pitiful about myself. Rather, God has invited me to lean into my weaknesses and ask God for the strength to continue. "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." (2 Corinthians 12:19)

So, I've learned that there is true freedom in Christ; freedom to fail, freedom to feel my emotions, and most importantly, freedom to be truly loved.

Prayer Requests

Please pray that our students can finish well this semester and not give up on making new friendships. As a student, I can easily remember checking out early and coasting through the rest of the year as it's easier to do. Also, please pray that our fundraiser, Spring Showcase,  goes well this weekend and that we can raise enough money to get our students to the leadership training week in August.
